From the Artist:
Have you ever made a wish upon a falling star?
I wish I could say I had—but truthfully, I’ve never even seen one.
Which feels like such a loss, doesn’t it?
Still, I hold close the memory of a childhood where the night sky itself felt like a blanket stitched with endless diamonds.
Back then, in my hometown, the air was cleaner, the city lights were fewer, and the heavens above seemed almost within reach.
If you grew up during the same time I did—during the Cory Aquino era in the Philippines—you might remember the frequent blackouts.
The world would go quiet, and in that hush, the stars would pour out in full glory.
My grandfather would pull out foldable stools into the garden, and together we’d sit, heads tilted back, drinking in the glittering sky.
It felt infinite, magical, alive.
As the years passed, my hometown transformed into a sprawling metropolis—brighter, busier, louder.
And in that brightness, the stars slowly faded from view.
More lights. More noise. Less magic.
Even now, as a mother, the longing remains.
I still dream of catching sight of a falling star one day—of standing hand-in-hand with my husband and child, gazing upward, ready to cast a wish into the universe together.
A small, silent hope traveling across a sky still capable of wonder.
This artwork draws from that feeling:
An intricate dance of vibrant geometric shapes, painted with soft gradients and lively colors. The composition flows like a river of dreams across the canvas—an abstract homage to the forgotten night skies, and to the wishes we still quietly hold close.
