From the Artist:
When I was very young and knew little about the world of plants, I discovered a small plot in our garden where strange, spiky plants thrived. Their sharp edges pricked my fingers whenever I dared to touch them, and so, I quickly learned to keep my distance.
Yet, the adults—especially the women—seemed drawn to this unassuming patch of green. I watched, puzzled, as they plucked the thick leaves, split them open, and let the dewy liquid inside ooze onto their hands. Then, without hesitation, they smoothed it into their hair. To my younger self, the sight was nothing short of repulsive.
It wasn’t until later that I learned the name of this plant: aloe vera. What I had dismissed as an unkind, unwelcoming thing was, in truth, a source of nourishment. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, aloe vera wasn’t just a remedy for dry hair—it could soothe burns, heal skin, and even treat conditions like psoriasis and acne.
The lesson was clear: beauty is rarely found at first glance. Sometimes, it hides behind rough edges, waiting for the right hands to reveal it.
This illustration captures that very idea—a vibrant, circular abstract pattern where sections unfold like pieces of a story. Leafy forms weave through geometric designs, blending structure with nature, harsh lines with organic curves. Just like the aloe vera of my childhood, this artwork is a reminder to look closer, to see beyond the surface, and to find beauty where we least expect it.
