Underwater Solace

Believe it or not, this artwork was born from dreams—dreams I once had often, back when I was a young professional navigating the uncertain waters of adulthood.

Stepping into the workforce after college was a jarring transition. There was fear, tension, anxiety—an unsettling question of what the future held for someone like me. Perhaps it was that very uncertainty that led to a recurring dream, one that wrapped me in an otherworldly calm.

In these dreams, I was always underwater. Sometimes, I was a mermaid, gliding effortlessly through the deep. Other times, I remained human but possessed the inexplicable ability to breathe beneath the waves. No matter the form I took, one thing was certain—I always felt safe. The water became my cocoon, a sanctuary where the weight of reality melted away. Schools of fish wove around me, the ocean floor stretched infinitely below, and the vastness of the deep embraced me like a protective shield.

These dreams would visit me whenever stress, frustration, or sadness crept in, as if my subconscious knew exactly where to take me for refuge. But somewhere along the way, the dreams stopped. I no longer find myself beneath the waves at night. And oh, how I miss that feeling—of being cradled by the sea, of floating in a place untouched by worry.
